Refrigeration technology makes a major contribution to humanity in many ways, including food preservation, control of indoor air quality, industrial process control, production of food and drinks, computer cooling.
About 15% of the world’s electricity is used to power refrigerating and air conditioning systems.
Inefficient use of energy in these applications is a waste of valuable resources and contributes to global warming.
People usually ignore the fact that most of the global warming effect caused by refrigerating systems comes from generating energy to power them, and only a small proportion comes from the release of certain refrigerants, such as HCFCs or HFCs.
Despite these figures, worldwide agreements, standards and regulations did not directly address the energy efficiency of HVAC&R systems for years.
Why?
